Do you want ADVICE from Aesthetician’s on Achieving Glass Skin!

If you’ve ever scrolled through skincare TikTok or admired the flawless complexions of K-beauty influencers, you’ve probably heard of glass skin—that ultra-hydrated, pore less, and dewy look that seems to glow from within. But let’s get real: achieving this level of radiance isn’t just about slapping on a serum and calling it a day. It takes the right routine, consistency, and knowing what not to do. I interviewed a friend of mine, Renee, who is a licensed aesthetician.  She was able to give me some tips + advice that I've actually practiced myself & I'd like to share them with you all.

So, let’s break it all down—step by step, skin type by skin type, and with expert-approved tips!

Step 1: Start with a Clean Slate—Double Cleanse!

No matter your skin type, cleansing properly is non-negotiable when working toward glass skin. A clean face means better product absorption, less clogged pores, and a smoother complexion.

🔹 For Oily & Acne-Prone Skin: Use a gentle foaming cleanser after an oil-based one to remove excess sebum without over-stripping. Look for ingredients like salicylic acid or green tea extract.

🔹 For Dry & Sensitive Skin: Stick to a hydrating cream or gel cleanser with ingredients like ceramides, oat extract, or glycerin to maintain moisture.

🔹 For Combination Skin: Opt for a mild pH-balancing cleanser that won’t dry out your cheeks while still controlling oil in your T-zone.

💡 Pro Tip: If you wear sunscreen (which you should!) or makeup, always double cleanse at night to remove every trace of buildup.

Step 2: Exfoliate, but Gently!

To achieve that smooth, light-reflecting glow, exfoliation is key—but overdoing it can sabotage your glass skin goals.

🔸 For Oily Skin: Use a BHA (salicylic acid) exfoliant 2-3 times a week to clear pores.

🔸 For Dry or Sensitive Skin: Stick to a PHA or lactic acid-based exfoliant 1-2 times a week to gently dissolve dead skin without irritation.

🔸 For All Skin Types: If chemical exfoliants feel too strong, try a mild rice or enzyme-based physical exfoliant once a week.

🚫 Avoid: Harsh scrubs with large, jagged particles (looking at you, walnut scrubs!). These can cause micro-tears in the skin, leading to irritation and breakouts.

Step 3: Hydration is Your Best Friend

Glass skin = deeply hydrated skin, so your routine should be layered like a dewy cake of hydration.

Essence or Hydrating Toner: This preps your skin to absorb moisture better. Look for hyaluronic acid, snail mucin, or rice extract.

Serum: Choose a hydrating serum with ingredients like niacinamide, panthenol, or beta-glucan to plump and brighten.

Moisturizer: Even oily skin types need moisture! Look for gel-based moisturizers for oily skin, lightweight creams for combination skin, and richer creams for dry skin.

💡 Pro Tip: Apply products to damp skin to lock in hydration better!

Step 4: Lock in That Glow with Occlusives

To keep moisture from evaporating, occlusives are a must—especially for dry or dehydrated skin.

🔹 Best Occlusives: Squalane, jojoba oil, petrolatum (like a tiny bit of Vaseline for slugging!), or shea butter.
🔹 For Oily Skin: Skip thick occlusives and use a lightweight sleeping mask instead.

🚫 Avoid: Heavy, pore-clogging ingredients like coconut oil (especially if you’re acne-prone).

Step 5: Sunscreen—The Ultimate Glass Skin Protector

No matter how perfect your routine is, UV damage will undo everything if you skip sunscreen.

☀️ SPF 30 or higher is mandatory! Look for lightweight, non-greasy formulas, especially if you have oily or acne-prone skin.

💡 Pro Tip: Reapply every 2-3 hours if you’re outside or in front of screens all day (yes, blue light can also damage skin!).

What to Avoid for Glass Skin Perfection

Over-exfoliating—It will wreck your barrier and cause dryness or breakouts.

❌ Skipping moisturizer—Even if you’re oily, hydration is crucial!

❌ Using harsh actives together—Mixing retinol, vitamin C, and exfoliants can irritate your skin.

Sleeping in makeup—One night of laziness can clog pores for weeks.

Final Glow Getter Tips for ALL Skin Types

💧 Drink enough water! Your skin reflects your hydration levels.
🍽️ Eat a balanced diet. Omega-3s, fruits, and antioxidants will boost that natural glow.
🧖🏽‍♀️ Use a weekly sheet mask. It’s an easy way to boost hydration.
😴 Get enough sleep. Your skin repairs itself overnight—don’t rob it of beauty sleep!

The Takeaway

Glass skin isn’t just a trend—it’s a commitment to hydration, gentle exfoliation, and sun protection. No matter your skin type, following these steps will get you closer to your glowiest, healthiest skin ever.
